The NHC has three primary programs for adult players. The adult teams are a mix of male and female players. We currently have about 40 members and of those approximately 6-8 female players with aspirations to increase that number into the mid-teens by season end. Between the three programs, players can expect between 26 and 30 game opportunities over the course of the year.
Winter Indoor League
The indoor season runs from January to April and consists of six games per team. The club assembles three to four teams and the season ends in a championship each year. Each team should get 6 to 7 games during the season. In 2015, games were generally scheduled on Sundays in the early afternoon and were played at Players Indoor Sports at 1740 Quincy Ave., Naperville, IL 60540. Travel Team / Tournament Play
The club will host or attend about 1 traveling tournament per month, starting in April and ending in October. Players will travel based on their skill and availability. Most tournaments are accompanied by a trophy or cup, which are highly sought after by all participating clubs. The season culminates with the National Championships, where clubs are grouped by level/grade and compete for the national title at their level/grade. The championships can be held anywhere in the country. In 2015, the championships are in Oak Forest, Illinois at Chicago Gaelic Park. |
Spring / Summer Outdoor League
Outdoor starts in mid- to late-April and ends in mid- to late-October. The club is split into 2 to 3 sponsored teams based on a "draft" or assignment based on factors such as age, experience and skill. The goal is to create relatively even teams to start the season. Games are generally scheduled for Sunday afternoons starting between 5 and 7 p.m. and are played at one of several locations, including Nike Park, Naperville, Commissioner's Park, Naperville, Benedictine University, Lisle, Lewis University, Romeoville and The Chicago Blaze rugby fields in Lemont. Players can expect 12 +/- league games over the outdoor season with breaks on holiday weekends, tournament weekends (see text to the left), and when other conflicts severely impact participation (e.g. Lollapalooza). |
